How it works

Seven reports, one story

Different sites cover the same event under their own headlines. Aktual works out that those reports are one story and brings them together into a single card.

  1. 01GatherSomething happens. Seven sites write it up under seven different headlines.
  2. 02RecogniseAktual works out that all seven reports are the same story.
  3. 03MergeIt brings them together into one card, with the source count on the card.
  4. 04ShowOpen the card: the key points, the timeline and the sources on one page.

Alerts

Hear about what matters, in time

When Aktual sees the same event reported by several sources, it can let you know. You choose which sections, regions and topics are worth an alert.

  1. A breaking alert goes out for events several outlets are reporting, not on the back of a single write-up.
  2. The morning briefing arrives at the same time each day: the main stories of the last 24 hours.
  3. For a story you follow, an alert comes only when something new appears, not on every repeat.

Daily briefing

The day in a few minutes

Alerts arrive during the day. The briefing comes at its start and its end. In the morning you read the main stories of the last 24 hours, in the evening only what changed. Repeat reports about the same event are brought together.

  • Morning briefingThe main stories of the last 24 hours.
  • Evening briefingWhat changed since the morning. Only the new parts.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is Aktual?

Aktual is an Azerbaijani news app. It brings together the reports published about the same event on different sites, and shows the key points, the latest change and the sources on one page. The full article always opens at the original site.

What is free, and what does Pro add?

The feed, story pages, timelines, sources, alerts and the daily briefing are free. Aktual Pro adds an ad-free experience, story background, source comparison, keyword alerts, unlimited saving and every TV and radio channel, for $4.99 a month or $34.99 a year.

Who writes the news?

Aktual does not write news and does not republish full articles. It groups the reports published about the same event by different sources, presents the key points and links out to the originals.

How are the summaries made?

Summaries are generated automatically, by AI, from the reports published about the same event. The source list and the original articles are always there when you want the full context.

When does an alert arrive?

A breaking alert goes out when an event is being reported by several sources. Aktual is not a newsroom that verifies claims, so an alert means a story has reached the agenda, not that a fact has been confirmed.

Which devices does it work on?

iPhone and Android. The app is a free download from the App Store and Google Play.

Is Aktual tied to any news outlet?

No. Aktual has no ties to any news organisation, party or government body, and it does not pick sources by their editorial line.
